The city's Parks & Recreation Department provides a wide range of family-friendly activities, including youth athletics, skills classes, and events. The department also provides a wealth of information for other youth activities, including Little League baseball, youth football, county and select soccer teams, and other options.

Parks & Recreation offers very active youth elementary-grade soccer leagues for both boys and girls in the fall and similar basketball leagues in the winter. In association with various art organizations city-wide, activities classes are offered throughout the year. Parks & Recreation also maintains a variety of adult offerings.

In addition, this department also maintains over 50 miles of forest trails, as well as a number of city parks, which offer hiking, fishing, and camping opportunities.
