Kick back or kick up your heels at Cap Santé Boat Haven

Beach, music and more...

Imagine an informal crowd relaxing along the shoreline, listening and dancing to live music set against the backdrop of Fidalgo Island's dramatic Cap Santé headland. Now put yourself in that picture free of charge.

That's right. No spendy tickets required for the Summer Concert Series at Seafarers' Memorial Park in Anacortes, sponsored jointly by the Port of Anacortes and the Snohomish Artist Guild. The family-friendly fun begins July 22, 7pm, and runs for five consecutive Friday evenings rain or shine through August 19.

From foot-tapping Zydeco to blues, old-time music, funk, and a Neil Diamond tribute, the concerts are a great way to wind down your week or jump start a fun-filled Anacortes weekend. Bring your blanket, low-back lawn chair, a picnic, and the whole family.

Or listen as you stroll the beach or shoreline esplanade.

A summertime favorite among locals and visitors alike, the outdoor concert series, now in its fourth year, grows annually. This season, events debut in an expansive new venue, just down the esplanade from years past, shoreward of the multi-purpose Seafarers' Park building.

"Public access to the waterfront is an important goal of our port," notes Bob Hyde, Port of Anacortes executive director. "We recognized the concerts as a great opportunity when the Snohomish Artist Guild approached us with the idea several years ago. And the public seems to agree!"

The park, once occupied by a Scott Paper mill, is the first major restoration project completed under Governor Christine Gregoire's "Puget Sound Initiative." The area re-opened this spring after almost two years of upland and in-water environmental cleanup funded by the Port of Anacortes, Kimberly-Clark and the Washington Department of Ecology.

So dust off those lawn chairs and picnic paraphernalia and come on down for some memorable summer evenings.
