Two years ago a team of volunteer business leaders in the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce began work on looking at the economic future of Anacortes. In order to look at the future it required a look at the past and the trends that were developing. The team gathered information and data on past trends that provided indications of how the economic base of Anacortes was changing along with the demographics. The team also prepared several illustrative scenarios on the different potential uses for one area of Anacortes and their economic impact. The result is the 2009 Anacortes Futures Project Report, with data that will assist with a better understanding of Anacortes, our land resources and an economic analysis. The report also includes the recommended next steps to form a Task Force in collaboration with the city, port and the Chamber of Commerce to develop an Economic Development Master Plan.
